Fun farewell to outgoing North Miami Mayor Joe Celestin
Several
hundred sympathizers and fellow politicians gathered Saturday May 6 at the
Kovens Center at Florida International University to salute and bid farewell to
Joe Celestin as he wrapped up four years as Mayor of the City of North Miami.
Joe Celestin, the first Haitian-American to serve as Mayor of a large city
earned praise from a broad section of the community for his accomplishments.
All guests were treated to drinks of their choice before dining in the banquet
room especially decorated for the occasion.
State Representative Phillipe Brutus unveiled a miniature street sign bearing
the name Joe Celestin Boulevard. It was a way of poking fun at the Mayor who
attempted to have the main road (125th Street) in North Miami. The Mayor
accepted by saying no one will ever take away his blvd.
In reference to the Mayor’s Rolls Royce which was once repossessed by mistake,
he was presented with a miniature Bentley.
The Mayor and his lady friend were followed to the dance floor by the assistance
when the talented Dadou Pasquet took to the podium in a rendition of his mega
hit “Ou Pi La”.
In all it was a fun night enjoyed by all attendees. Among the dignitaries in
attendance were former Mayor Howard Premmer, the Mayor of Baham Cameroun
Emmanuel Keumogne, fellow council members Jacques Despinosse and Michael Blynn
and Jean Monestime who is seeking to replace Celestin.
The Gala Banquet was an initiative of Jean and Manny Cherubin of Alliance
Broadcasting, the parent company of radio station Planet .
