COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
Gina Eugene was my guest on the show yesterday (Tuesday). You may have heard of her older brother Dr. Gregoire Eugene or her younger brother Garry who as a Commander is the highest ranking Haitian in the Miami Police Department.
To me, Gina and Ginette are Angels that God placed on this earth. Over the past few years, they have been traveling to remote corners of Haiti, seeking out desperately sick children and bring them to Miami for treatment. Once their treatment is completed, they bring them back to Haiti and come back with some more.
I recently ran into the sisters who were accompanied by 3 of those children. One is a 15 year old girl whose face is as big as a soccer ball with a tumor. The other is a 10 year old boy with burns over 90% of his body and the third is a boy with a heart ailment.
When I look at these children, I ask myself what I did to deserve the blessings of not seeing my own child in this situation.
On the show, Gina explained how she and her sister became like poor people on the street begging for money to pay for airplane tickets to bring the children here.
They were successful in enlisting the help of the largest hospital in Miami to help care for the children. Jackson Memorial Hospital Foundation has agreed to help. While the Doctors volunteer their services, the hospital insists on getting paid.
Thanks to the generosity of our listeners, the 15 year old girl is due to undergo surgery in the next few days to remove the tumor.
Gina and Ginette need your help. The children need your help.
Send a check or money order today to the Jackson Memorial Foundation and write Haiti on the check. It will go in the fund to care for the children.
For information, visit the foundation’s website at www.jmf.org or call Gina and Ginette at (754) 235-5192.
To those, who like me, sometimes complain about our little troubles, I dedicate this poem from my favorite author.
Motivation for March 16TH / 2005
Count your blessings
Count
your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count
your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count
your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count
your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count
your health instead of your wealth;
Love your neighbor as much as yourself.
