Attitude adjustment
It
is very easy for most of us to feel discouraged when faced with adversity. At
that very moment, we allow all types of negative thoughts to enter our mind and
that can be dangerous.
When you feel discouraged and self doubt is setting in, step back and make an
inventory of your strengths and weaknesses.
It is sometimes too easy for us to point to our weaknesses instead of our
strengths. We keep looking at reasons we failed when we should be focusing on
our inner strength to pull us out of troubled times.
Every successful person has had to face some type of adversity on their way to
reaching their goals. Many of them were told that they would never succeed. The
difference between the successful and the rest of us is that the rest of us give
up at the first sign of trouble or whenever we make a mistake. We sometimes
value other people’s opinions more than our own.
What we need is what I call an “Attitude adjustment”. By that I mean, taking an
inventory of where we are and where we want to go.
I believe that nothing in life happens by accident. There’s no such thing as
luck. Les Brown says “luck is where skills meet with opportunity”. What he means
is that we should always make sure we acquire the skills and knowledge necessary
so we will be prepared when an opportunity comes our way. He further states that
it is always better to be prepared for an opportunity that never comes than to
have an opportunity and not be prepared for it.
I also believe that we get out of life exactly what we put in it. Nothing
happens by accident. Good things don’t always come to those who wait, but to
those who put in the effort. It’s not that you’re unlucky. It may be that you
haven’t put in the effort it takes for you to be successful.
Be honest with yourself. Don’t cheat yourself. Ask yourself these questions: Are
you sleeping when you should be working? Are you putting in the effort you
should? Did you give up too soon?
These may give you some ideas why things are not working too well. Now remember
this. Starting over is not a sin. It’s ok to start over, to adjust your attitude
and go for your victory. Go for it.
