No situation is hopeless

At one time or another, many of us have found ourselves in what we consider to be a “hopeless situation”. The actress Dinah Shore once said: “There are no hopeless situations, only people who are hopeless about them”. I totally agree with her.

When you are facing a difficult situation, do like I do. Think back at some difficult times you overcame. Some of us are old enough to have plenty of memories of past difficulties. Think about how hopeless the situation looked back then and where you are now. Maybe it was a bill you had to pay and didn’t have the money. Maybe you were in a bad relationship. You didn’t have a car. Whatever it was, somehow you got out of it. Why then are you worried about your present circumstances?

When faced with what we consider “hopeless situations”, the worst thing you could do is “nothing”. We know what the results will be if we do nothing. Do something and the result will be something. Sounds silly doesn’t it? But it’s true. If you hate your job, do something. Take classes at night in the field you really like and change jobs. You don’t have to be stuck to something you don’t enjoy doing.

Don’t be a procrastinator. Putting off a decision is only delaying your pain. If you really want to change your situation, do it now. Act today. Don’t be afraid of changes. Most people resist changes just because of their fear of the unknown. Did you know 20 years ago what you know now? 20 years later you’re finding out it is not that bad. What are you afraid of? Decide to change and start acting on it now.

In his great text “Memorandum from God”, Og Mandino tells us that we were blessed with the right to chose. What a mighty blessing! We get to choose our relationships, our circumstances, our attitudes, our friends. We chose our actions and yes, we also chose our inactions. The right to chose is ours and ours alone.

Once you make your decision, act on it immediately no matter how crazy others might think it is. If you fail, you will be the only one failing but if you succeed, you will be the only one to enjoy the fruits. Discount other people opinions.

The situation may not be hopeless after all. It might be you who lack hope. Hope is within reach, all you have to do is decide. Decide to change your attitude, your circumstance, your perspective and yes, your life.
